A small list of privacy tools

Posted on May 27, 2021May 27, 2021 by Anshuk Attri

Confused about the tiff between the GoI and Twitter/Whatsapp? Thinking of picking a side?

Well, you shouldn’t worry about it; because doesn’t matter which one you pick, or which one of them “wins”, you will be on the losing side.

Twitter/Whatsapp care as much about your privacy as the government does about your freedom.

Rather, think of this as an opportunity to finally push yourself to learn about privacy tools that we are going to need more than ever over the coming years.

If you have time, do spare some of it to learn about some of these.

  1. The Tor Project, a network built to browse the internet anonymously.

    https://www.torproject.org/

  2. Matrix, a network built for decentralised communication.

    https://matrix.org/

  3. OpenPGP and GNU Privacy Guard, tools for encrypting your emails and other data.

    https://www.openpgp.org/

    https://gnupg.org/

  4. ExifTool, a tool to remove metadata from your files.

    https://exiftool.org/

  5. VPNs, a tool to browse the web securely and privately. There are a lot of them to pick from.

Just remember, there are no “free” VPNs.

Try using this page to search for one.
